Suggested actions:
Action 1: Put HESTA on notice.
I’d like to ask my organisation to put Hesta on notice re dumping its companies undermining the Paris Agreement – or the organisation will dump Hesta as its default fund and choose a fund more aligned with climate justice.
Use our sample Organisations’ Letter to Hesta (or your other fund) to put them on notice to immediately divest from companies expanding fossil fuels and outline their plan to completely divest from all companies helping develop fossil fuels by 2025, or your organisation will choose a default fund more aligned to climate justice (NGS Super is the most advanced industry fund that has excluded coal, oil and gas producers) and inform staff of publicly committed, fossil free funds. (There are 4 retail funds that are completely fossil free – see our webpage footer).
Take Action:
- Have conversations with supportive people in your organisation including on comms platforms;
- Have conversations with your management & CEO and or board;
- Send your Organisation’s Letter to Hesta & inform us at fossilfreesuper@gmail.com
- Adopt a fossil free super policy and publicise your actions
Action 2: Meet your union.
I would like to meet with my union to ask them to make their industry fund the first to go fossil free for climate justice.
Take Action:
- Raise the issue and have a conversation with your union workplace colleagues, delegates and organisers
- Seek a meeting with your union executive and ask your colleagues to join – use our sample letter to your union
- send it to hesta@hesta.com.au or your fund’s contact email (and don’t forget to cc us at; fossilfreesuper@gmail.com
Action 3: Rollover your super.
I’m in Hesta or another fund and I want to rollover to an ethical fossil free fund
Sign on to our Letter to Hesta or Letter to your other fund to put them on notice to outline their plan to completely divest from all fossil fuels by 2025 or you will roll over to a publicly committed, fossil free fund. (There are 4 of these you can choose from).
Take Action:
- Copy the Letter to Hesta or the Letter to your other super fund and copy and paste into an email ;
- fill in your personal details
- send it to hesta@hesta.com.au or your fund’s contact email (and don’t forget to cc us at; fossilfreesuper@gmail.com)
Action 4: Support this campaign.
I’m already in an ethical fossil free fund or I can’t rollover but I want to support this campaign to shift super out of fossil fuels
Take Action:
- Sign up as a supporter using the button on our home page
- Stay updated and join us for further actions to demand super funds take our money out of fossil fuels
